Position Summary: The Child Nutrition Assistant performs semi-skilled and unskilled tasks necessary for the preparation and serving of meals and the operation and care of school cafeteria.

Position Summary: The Teacher Aide will provide support for teachers, helping with clerical work and classroom activities, providing individual attention to students in need of extra assistance, monitoring students while the teacher is out, providing physical and instructional support to at-risk students and students with dyslexia. S/he will assist in the implementation of classroom programs, including self-help, behavior management, instructional programs, and additional duties focused on student success. The Aide will work under general supervision of the principal and immediate direction of the certified teacher.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide dyslexia services
  • Tutor individual or small groups, reinforcing instruction as directed by the teacher
  • Work with at-risk students
  • Assist teacher with instructional materials and equipment, administrative records, and learning environments
  • Confer with the teacher concerning lesson plans and materials to meet student needs, assist with implementation of lesson plans
  • Help manage behavior of students, including intervention during crisis situations and protecting students during disruptive or dangerous student behavior
  • Assist teacher with supervision of students during non-instructional times such as emergency drills, assemblies, cafeteria, restrooms, field trips, hallways, outside time, arrival, and dismissal
  • Keep teacher informed of progress or problems of individual students
  • Perform a variety of clerical duties in support of classroom activities such as preparing, typing, copying and filing instructional materials, grading test and assignments, recording grades and attendance, and maintaining student records and files as assigned
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Maintain emotional control in stressful situations
  • Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned
  • Perform all other duties as assigned
Essential Job Requirements:
  • Education: High school diploma or GED
  • Preferred: Associate’s degree, two years of study at an institute of higher learning, or have met formal academic assessment required by TEA
  • Required Skills and Capabilities: Ability to work with special needs children, follow verbal and written instructions, and communicate effectively
  • Must have or be willing to receive training in CPI, Autism, and Behavior Intervention
  • Physical Requirements: ability to carry up to 25 lbs. and lift up to 50 lbs.; valid driver license
